The Charity auction of an Augenstern Diamond made from Marek Hamsik's hair will help patients with the incurable disease, Multiple Sclerosis, to improve their lives; for example, to get out of their block flat after years of „imprisonment“.
The disease, which affects 2 million people in the world and thousands of Slovaks, is not well known to the public. It is, however, the second most common chronic neurological disease. It occurs mostly among women and it affects patients in their most productive age, between 20-40 . There is still no cure for Multiple Sclerosis and its cause remains unknown.
The disease makes itself felt differently. Some patients are able to keep their jobs and continue their lives with some limitations, their neighborhood not recognizing any major differences. For most, however, the disease will force them to change their lives dramatically.
Doctors cannot predict how the disease will progress, it all depends on the location of the injuries to the spinal cord and brain. Patients affected by Multiple Sclerosis are mostly young people at the beginning of their professional career, when their entire life is ahead of them. At the same time they must suddenly face the disease and the fact that nothing will be the same and everyday will be a fight to get out of bed, to walk just a few meters.
,,I confess when hearing about Multiple Sclerosis for the first time, I did not know a thing about it. Immediately, I looked for it on the internet. I will be glad if I can help people suffering this illness,“ Marek explained.
Marek Hamsik will be the first Slovak from whose hair a unique diamond will be cultivated; it will be auctioned on the internet and via sms soon. The entire amount gained from the charity auction will be used to help the specific needs of Multiple Sclerosis patients.
